Contracts… gotta love them.

Today was the first time that I was glad that I make customers sign contracts.  For the first time I had to cite a couple provisions and clauses in my contract to ensure that I was paid fairly.  Man oh! Man, I’m glad I made the client sign one of those.   In my contacts I have a payment schedule that ensures that if clients decided to cancel their projects for any number of reasons they have a scale of payment that they must meet.  Essentially, if a client withdrawls from the contact within  a couple of days they get 50% of their money back, but if they withdrawl say a month later they have to pay the full amount of the contact.  This essentially protects me from clients who continually encourse their sites design and creation, and then upon deciding that they don’t like it withdrawing from the contact and cancelling the project.

Lets just say i’m glad I was protected today.

Got my geek on!

For the last two months I’ve been met with dropped wireless connections from my router about every twenty minutes… I finally had enough. I decided to get my geek on and change the firmware on the linksys router, and I don’t mean the firmware that Linksys provides. It’s old news now, but Linksys had to open up their firmware to the community, so a bunch of variants have popped up that are run by third parties.  I decided to give DD-wrt a run to see if it fixes my problems.  It was a little bit more complicated then I was hoping for, not that it was difficult!  It was just that I decided to undertake this little project well after midnight, and I’m freakin super tired.  Anyway, I busted out some command line tools (tftp for those who care) and got to work.

I must say i’ve been successfully running the new firmware for about an hour and have yet to loose my wireless connection. I should also point out that the software packages that come with this open firmware kicks linksys’s versions ass…  I’ll post more when I have time to fully go over the entire setup.  As for tonight…. I’m going to bed.

Web 2.0…. heading towards bust 2.0

So, I consider myself a tech-saavy internet user. I read tons of blogs, spend most of my time on the internet, I even spend most of my spare time messing around with new web technologies. I love it. It’s exciting times for us geeks! But, i’m starting to get a little bit worried. Read the rest of this entry »

Web bullies to face suspension…

This pisses me of so much. When did the government of Ontario get the power to regulate what students do in their own homes? How in the hell do they have the right to suspend students who post comments on line, and what the hell ever happened to free speech. What the hell ever happened to parents being the discipline authorities in their own homes.

What’s next? Kids who watch SNL will be suspended, or better yet… kids who watch hockey night in Canada will be suspended because it advocates violence? What about WWE, or rated R movies? Listening to Rap, or death metal. More importantly, what about drinking underage on Fridays.  I mean these are all detremental to society right… these all fall into a similar category… right?  If any of my children, which I don’t have by the way, ever get suspended for something they did off of school property or time the government of Ontario is going to have one hell of a fight on their hands.

It’s time for parents to be held responsible for the actions of their children. Maybe if their parents actually loved them they wouldn’t be bullies… ZING.

I mean the Internet was built on Flame Wars… there is no going back now. I for one will continue to bully people online.  It’s what I do best.  Can you imagine the amount of suspensions that would be handed out if the school monitored CS servers, or WOW servers…. geesh.

Time Out! Part One.

Taking a quick break from my studies today to watch some playoff hockey, and catch up on some news around the web. I stumbled across a pretty cool website that demonstrates the power of todays web technologies, if you get a chance check out scrapblog.com. Every time I stumble across today websites I’m simply amazed at how far we’ve come since the days of geocities.  Unbelievable.

Anyway, I’ve been pretty busy lately. I’m pretty behind with my school work because I’ve been spending a majority of my time working on some designs and planning my upcoming wedding. Sometimes I think I was crazy to think I can handle all of this.  Other times I think its been a breeze.  Ah well… no looking back now.

I need to get back to work.

Part Two to follow.

I’m alive… I swear!

Hey, I’m still here… I’ve just been super busy with school and wedding planning.  I promise I’ll post a huge update in the next couple of days.
