Editing an Apache config file from the command line OS X Server (Tiger Server).

I’ve been really annoyed with VNC access to my webserver. So, I’ve vowed to use ssh to administer that server from the command line. It’s a lot quicker, and I should probably have carried over this technique from my Linux days, but somehow I got caught up in all the pretty graphics that OS X server offers. Anyway, here’s a quick ‘how to’ on how to edit the Apache config files on OS X server in a virtual hosting environment. If you familiar with Unix it’s a walk in the park.

Restarting OS X Server (Tiger Server) from the command line

I’ve decided to write a couple tips for administering OS X Server 10.4.10 (Tiger Server) from the command line both locally and remotely. This first one will help you reboot your server, and shutdown your server. Read the rest of this entry »

BBC’s Jekyll

I’m not an avid Television watcher. I pretty much stay away from it altogether, and probably wouldn’t pay for cable if the wife didn’t watch it. I mean, why would I pay for cable when I could download the shows online, sans commercial?

I stumbled onto Jekyll through a podcast i listen to, and have enjoyed it immensely. It’s an interesting twist on the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Novel. The acting can be a bit cheesy at times, but It was fun none the less.

Check it out if you get a chance.

New schedule…

It’s been a while since i’ve gotten up regularly at 7am… I guess that’s what happens when you work for yourself.  But, I have to say that it’s nice being on a schedule again, and I’m seriously enjoying the new found hours during my day.  Even though I’ve filled that time with more work (both school, and design), I feel like I’ve been able to accomplish a lot more.  Who knows, maybe its all in my head, but I’m starting to think that I could become a morning person!  Trust me, if you don’t know me personally, that’s a huge step forward.  Until this point, I usually need a good hour of quite time before I am ready to interact with others.  It’s all turning around!

…But, same bat time, and same bat channel!

The Mac Switch

I wrote a quick article over on macgasm.net about the reasons I made the switch and the reasons why I won’t be switching back to windows any time soon.  You can read it here!

So I’m creating a wordpress template.

I figured that I should learn how to create unique websites based on the content management systems (CMS). Essentially a CMS lets you control your website from the backend. It’s actually a lot easier than I had originally Read the rest of this entry »

Lets make the internet a better place.

I’ve been spending all of my time the last 3 days working with standardless web browsers. Its a real pain.  I essentially have to code a website for modern browsers (which is amazing), and then have to go back and apply hacks to all the code to ensure that some legacy version of internet explorer renders the page properly.  I’ve made a decision.  I will no longer do this.  If users can’t care enough to keep up with their browsers updates they’re on their own.  So, here is a list of browser download pages. Make sure your browsers are up to date.  Not only will websites look a  ton better, but you will be more secure when surfing the internet. I’ve taken all the work out of it. Just  click the browser to get the latest update. Any please, please do this to every single computer you come into contact with whether it’s in your office, home, coffee house… EVERWHERE!
